MESSAGE TO ROSE VALLEY WATER COMPANY CUSTOMERS
The following information may answer questions you have relative to the public notice delivered on August 11th, 2006.Rose Valley Water Company’s water is safe. As stated in the public notice it is possible certain weather conditions during the time of testing for coliforms may have attributed to a positive detection.
Rose Valley Water Company takes very seriously the health and quality of its customers’ water. The company continues to use compliance tests that far exceed the testing requirements mandated for public water systems by the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (http://www.azdeq.gov/function/forms/appswater.html#sdw). Any positive detection of total coloform is immediately followed up with further testing in the service area to confirm whether there is an issue with water quality. Further testing of the service area has confirmed no further detection of total coloforms in the water system.
Rose Valley Water chlorinates its water by mandate from the Maricopa County Environmental Services Department (http://www.maricopa.gov/ENVSVC/Wwmd.asp). At no time did free chlorination levels fall below the prescribed amount required by Maricopa County.
Public Notice
(Coliforms)This notice is to inform the customers of Rose Water Company that in July of 2006 our water system (PWS #0407065) exceeded the maximum containment level for Coliforms. The maximum containment level was exceeded in more than one sample in a 30 day period out of 14 samples taken throughout the month. It should be noted that subsequent tests since the “positive detect” have been negative. Rose Valley Water has implemented additional voluntary testing to monitor the system and continues to keep chlorination at safe consistent levels. At no time did Rose Valley Water Company’s system fall below the mandatory chlorine levels, as prescribed by Maricopa County Environmental Services Division.
Certain weather conditions during the time of testing for Coliforms may have attributed to a positive detection. Any wind, rain, dust or other outside weather disturbance may have an affect during the sampling process by contaminating the sample containers thereby causing adverse results. The prescribed sampling protocol requires water to be drawn outside the system from pre-selected sites throughout the services area. It is during this process that certain weather conditions may affect the sample before it is tested, thus one of the reasons testing continues through the month. Rose Valley Water strives to take accurate and representative samples for Coliform bacteria from the distribution system.
Coliforms are bacteria that are naturally present in the environment and are used as an indicator that other, potentially harmful, bacteria may be present. Coliforms were found in more samples than allowed and this was a warning of potential problems.
Rose Valley Water has since conducted further testing of its system and those results were negative.
